They say looks can be deceiving and Christophe's certainly does deceive. The menu looks great, the restaurant looks quite lovely, the food looks lovely but sadly it did not deliver on the key ingredient, Flavour! The menu Christophe, an opportunity for the chef to showcase his skills, failed to entice me into a return visit to sample the a la carte. My starter offered little rabbit in the terrine and more of jelly and looked untidy on the plate. The lobster with orange and vanilla didn't work and I may add was quite chewy with no scent of vanilla. My main of duck was again overcooked and the dish lacked flavour with the exception of the confit leg quite obviously. The desert looked and sounded a show stopper, poached pear with earl grey ice cream, curd cheese and lemon which sadly just put a stop to the show. The Earl Grey ice cream I was really looking forward to but once again couldn't taste the tea at all even though I saw the leaves mixed into. Sadly it was all show for me and no substance, I should've realised where 4 dishes on the wall in tiled art form didn't look appealing either. I actually felt sorry for the well-to-do party of 30 who had lamb shank for main with a rosemary sprig stuffed in the end, Come on!! Fortunately Christophe taster menu changes regularly, and change it must, to include flavour and technique. If it wants to reach higher culinary echelons, must try harder!!
